Fame at last

We are now officially (well according to the Sunday Telegraph at the weekend) one of the top 50 farm shops in the country. Not bad considering we don't actually have a shop.  The other two mentioned for the North East were North Acomb, off the A69 to Hexham, and Swallows fish merchants in Seahouses.

Luckily Hugh was away for the weekend, I hadn't mentioned which photo they were including so it was handy he was on the end of a phone rather than across the kitchen table when he saw it. None of us like the glare of publicity.

Meanwhile at home the fine weather is much appreciated. We've combined some of the beans which weren't exactly a triumph but considering the year it was just a relief to harvest anything, they came off soaking wet so drying them down to store through the winter will be expensive.

Today we've cut a field of grass and red clover for silage, which again is late but the field has only just dried out enough to travel on.

A litter of piglets were born on Saturday, we let her farrow indoors as the nights are getting chilly. All the rest of the sows are still out enjoying the sun and a wallow in the day then sharing the arks for warmth at night. When they pile out for breakfast it always makes me think of the " how many elephants can you fit in a mini " joke although haven't a clue what the punch line to it is!

HEXHAM MARKET THIS WEEKEND AND WHITLEY BAY/ TYNEMOUTH DELIVERIES ON FRIDAY MORNING
